CUSTOMER STORY / PAUL WIEGAND

100,000+ products. Complex B2B pricing. One scalable commerce architecture.

Paul Wiegand connects BigCommerce, SHOPMACHER and NEKOM with ERP contract pricing, product information and SAP OCI Punchout. A B2B project with clear roles.

01 / BUSINESS BACKGROUND

A specialist. An extensive catalogue.

Paul Wiegand GmbH combines spare-parts commerce with individual business customer requirements. More than 100,000 products need to be discoverable, understandable and available to order on the right commercial terms.

Digital purchasing needs more than a new storefront: pricing and availability must fit the customer, product information needs maintenance and orders must enter established workflows.

The challenge was not BigCommerce as a commerce system. It came from the interaction of ERP, product information, contract pricing and enterprise procurement.

02 / THE CHALLENGE

Complexity sits between systems.

  • Individual contract prices need to be available in the right customer context.
  • Product information, variants and translations support a large catalogue.
  • ERP-managed availability and order data must be usable in digital workflows.
  • Procurement requires additional B2B integration, including SAP OCI Punchout.

03–05 / SYSTEMS, PARTNERS & WORKFLOW

One shared architecture, clear roles.

  2. 02BigCommerce · SHOPMACHER UX
  3. 03NEKOM Operations
  4. 04ERP: terms & availability

SHOPMACHER

Frontend and UX: the buying experience, customer journeys and implementation of the customer-facing commerce interface.

BigCommerce

The commerce platform for the storefront and digital purchasing. It is one part of the solution, not the sole home for all ERP business logic.

NEKOM

Business operations, integration and orchestration: connecting product information, ERP commercial terms and operational order workflows.

Conceptual project architecture. This describes areas of responsibility, not a complete technical interface specification.

06 / PRODUCTS & ORDERS

Bring product knowledge and orders into operations.

Product management

Central product information management, AI-assisted content and translations support the extensive catalogue. Four people manage more than 100,000 products. This is a customer-specific figure, not a general staffing or capacity guarantee.

Orders and claims

Automated order and claims workflows, together with Returns Portal, connect purchasing and after-sales. Operational information and returns are handled in the context of existing systems.

07 / ERP & B2B

The right terms in the right customer context.

NEKOM coordinates the real-time ERP connection for contract prices, availability and orders. ERP remains the responsible source of the commercial and price information it manages.

  2. 02NEKOM coordinates data
  3. 03ERP provides terms
  4. 04Store presents relevant information

The published case also describes EU VAT validation through VIES. These capabilities were implemented for the project; their use elsewhere depends on systems and requirements.

08 / ENTERPRISE PROCUREMENT

SAP OCI Punchout connects procurement.

Procurement integration is part of the B2B architecture, alongside the storefront and ERP terms.

SAP OCI Punchout is documented as an implemented integration for Paul Wiegand. It brings the business customer’s procurement context into the digital purchasing scenario. This implementation is not a blanket promise for every procurement system.

09 / CUSTOMER-SPECIFIC OUTCOMES

Results of this customer project.

Paul Wiegand: managing complexity.

Contract pricing, extensive product information and ERP processes in a shared commerce architecture.

~45%
of order volume through the platform
4
people manage the product catalogue

Published customer-specific figures for Paul Wiegand. Not universal NEKOM performance or outcome guarantees.

  • Automated core workflows reduce manual effort; operational costs remained stable despite growing complexity.
  • Customer-specific prices are available in real time. Localised stores support ordering across countries.
  • New markets and products can be brought into the shared platform.

Figures from the published Paul Wiegand case. No invented customer quotations and no assumption that other projects will achieve the same results.

10 / TRANSFERABLE PRINCIPLES

What other B2B businesses can take from this.

  • Agree data ownership before implementing interfaces.
  • Design frontend, product information and ERP workflows together.
  • Name partner roles explicitly and document business handovers.
  • Plan procurement, orders and after-sales as connected workflows.
